Your spear should favor attack speed, with roughly 2.1 to 2.2 attacks per second giving Whirling Slash a much better feel. This build gains more from responsive movement than from a larger tooltip number that makes the character awkward to control.

Movement-speed boots are not mandatory here. Since Whirling Slash supplies the travel speed, boots and other slots can focus on life, armor, resistances, and the attack or skill speed that keeps the rotation comfortable.

When Oil Grenade Still Wins

The Whirling Slash version is at its best during regular mapping, Expedition, and moderate Delirium content. You click less, cross the map faster, and spend far less time placing fresh Burning Ground beside every new pack.

The older Oil Grenade approach can still have an edge in cramped fights against dense groups of strong enemies. Its sustained Ignite damage is easier to keep inside a confined area, while the Whirling Slash version gets more value from open space and constant movement.

Gemling also rewards a balanced Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence setup. Red gems can add life and defensive value, so do not build around damage alone. Flame Blast, Whirling Slash, Arctic Armour, and Cast on Elemental Affliction all gain useful efficiency from quality upgrades.
